Instrumentation Technician

Context & Job description

You will be part of the team of 6 staff which operates, maintains and improves the functionality of the ID16B experimental station (beamline).

The ID16B experimental station is equipped with high precision mechanical and sample positioning setups, X-ray fluorescence detectors and high speed CCD cameras, and dedicated sample environments such as furnaces and cryostats. Maintenance of these components and sample environment equipment is important to maintain the current high reliability and scientific thoughput of ID16B, as is the periodic installation and testing of new equipment.

 As ID16B’s Technician, you will:

  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance:
    • of sample environments in order to ensure their reliable operation;
    • of detectors and electronic equipment;
    • of motion control systems (e.g. sample positioning stepper and piezo motors)
  • Design and implement modifications to experimental setups to further improve reliability and performance of the available techniques
  • Install, test and maintain new equipment and sample environments

Expected profile

  • Technical degree (Bachelor or equivalent diploma worth at least 120 ECTS) in Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Maintenance
  • 2 to 8 years of professional experience
  • Experience in technical drawing and its associated software (ideally SOLIDWORKS)
  • Knowledge in vacuum technology will be an asset
  • Basic knowledge of VISIO software will be an advantage
  • Ability to work autonomously and possession of strong troubleshooting skills
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)
