IT Group Leader

Context & Job description

The Systems and Communication Group provides the computing resources and services to support the ESRF in its scientific missions. The SC Group consists of four Units: Unix, Windows, Network and the Helpdesk, it currently counts 22 engineers and technicians in the different units.

The group's duties include users support, definition, procurement, implementation and operation of technical solutions for all centralised computing resources including the data communication network, data storage and backup. The main challenge of the group is to deal with a massive data flow and large data storage, while ensuring a very high level of availability and IT-security for the facility. The IT-infrastructure is at the edge of available technology on the market and based on the most advanced solutions for data management (GPFS, BeeGFS, HDF5, Bacula..).

The Group Leader will report directly to the Head of Division, manage autonomously and in close collaboration with the group members and other stakeholders in the facility the IT infrastructure projects, provide key expertise and therefore stay abreast of technical developments, and represent the group within the ESRF and in European collaborations.

 

Expected profile

  • Higher university degree (Master or equivalent 300 ECTS diploma) in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent
  • Seniority in IT team management is required
  • Knowledge of Linux is required
  • Experience in Big Data solutions is an asset
  • Good relational skills, team spirit, a service-oriented attitude and an analytical mindset are essential to interact with people of different domains such as scientists and administrative staff in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF).
