Biology Technician

Context & Job description

The Biomedical Facility (BMF) is dedicated to supporting scientific users in in-vitro and in-vivo experiments. It consists of 300 m2 of laboratories, including L1 and L2 confinement labs, histology, tissue preparation, animal facility and cold room.

As the laboratory Technician, your role is to assist in the daily operation of the biology laboratories of the BMF and to support the users’ experiments, with the following tasks:

  • General laboratory duties including maintenance, organization, labelling, cleaning and decontaminating
  • Assistance to BMF users in their experiments: anticipation of required material and instrumentation; training of users; in-vitro cell culture support
  • Routine validation/calibration of laboratory equipment
  • Maintenance of cell stock libraries; preparation of reagents, analytical diluents and biological media solutions
  • Management of the stock of laboratory consumables; preparation and follow-up of purchase requests
  • Overseeing health and safety aspects and managing proper waste disposal

Expected profile

  • You should hold a technician degree (BSc, Licence, HND, HNC, BTS, DUT, Bachelor, Meister, Vordiplom, Perito, Laurea Triennale, Diplomatura, Ingenieria Técnica or equivalent) in Biology or a related discipline
  • 3 to 8 years of professional experience
  • Proven background in cell biology techniques, in immunohistochemistry methods and in the use and maintenance of biology laboratory instrumentation
  • Certified expertise in in-vivo experimentation (level 1 or 2 certifications) will constitute an additional asset
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF) and French

Working conditions

The annual gross salary will be within the range 26 – 32 k€ and additional allowances may apply.
