Electronics Technician

Context & Job description

You will join a team of eight engineers and technicians in charge of the design, installation and maintenance of diagnostics tools and feedback systems for the electron beam in the accelerator complex of the ESRF. The team is working with various equipment and techniques, including embedded systems with FPGAs for real time signal processing and high frequency/low noise electronics in order to measure the electron beam characteristics (position, stability, size, etc…) and control them.

Under the technical supervision of the engineers of the team and with the help of an expert support group, you will:

  • Maintain the equipment in optimal working conditions
  • Repair and/or adjust deficient equipment
  • Perform tests and calibrations
  • Write technical documentation
  • Install and test equipment on the accelerator complex
  • Provide assistance in development projects such as electronic board design or chip programming

Part of your work could be carried out in shifts, following ESRF regulations.

Expected profile

  • Technical / Academic degree (Bachelor or equivalent diploma worth at least 120 ECTS) in electronics, embedded systems or other relevant discipline
  • A few years of professional experience (young candidates are encouraged to apply)
  • Experience in electronic instrumentation and/or control systems
  • Experience of at least one of the following topics: electronic board design, HDL programming or object oriented programming is expected
  • Knowledge of Linux environment will be an asset
  • Curiosity and motivation to acquire new knowledge in various fields and to deepen your skills
  • Team work capability and good communication skills with international scientific and technical staff are essential
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)

Working conditions

The annual gross salary may be completed by additional allowances (shift allowance, standby allowance, expatriation allowance, etc.).
