Head of the Buildings & Infrastructure Group

Context & Job description

The Building and Infrastructure Group encompasses the exploitation, maintenance and further development of the ESRF site and technical infrastructures. The group is organised in four units:

  • Construction: the design and project management for the construction of new buildings, experimental hutches or laboratories;
  • Electrical: MV/LV power distribution, fire protection and telephone systems;
  • Fluids: HVAC, cooling systems, air supply systems, liquid nitrogen network and gases;
  • Maintenance and operation: buildings maintenance, cleaning, landscaping, site roads and handling.

As group head you will be responsible for a team of 30 engineers and technicians and in charge of a 25ha site with over 100 000 m2 of offices and technical areas. You will report directly to the Head of the Technical Infrastructure Division. The position involves continuous and close interaction with the main actors of the other Divisions of the facility.

Your activities will consist in:

  • Managing the Buildings and Infrastructure Group,
  • Assessing, proposing and managing the resources of the group (financial and staffing),
  • Supervising the operation, the maintenance and the site works for the construction and facilities' infrastructures,
  • Preparing and updating the long-term action plan,
  • Providing expertise in the group’s domains,
  • Planning and coordinating the group’s day to day activities,
  • Setting priorities,
  • Defining and following up of actions,
  • Following up of schedules,
  • Managing staff careers and training programmes,
  • Recruiting and assigning staff,
  • Managing the budget and defining the medium term financial planning.

Expected profile

  • You should hold a higher university degree (Master or equivalent diploma of 300 ECTS) in civil construction or a related discipline,
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in construction activities,
  • Thorough knowledge of the technical and theoretical aspects of the activities inherent to the group,
  • A good level of communication and excellent interpersonal skills are required,
  • Flexibility, analytical capacities, multi-tasking and problem solving are important qualities in this post,
  • Aptitude for planning and coordination is required,
  • The post requires decision making, self-confidence, and capacity to take initiative and provide imaginative leadership,
  • Good level of English and knowledge of French are essential.

Working conditions

Permanent contract.
