Postdoc Fellows High Resolution Powder Diffraction Beamline ID22

Context & Job description

You will participate in ongoing in-house research programmes, the operation of the beamline, providing support to external users as local contact, and develop your own research programme.

ID22 is the ESRF’s high resolution powder diffraction beamline allowing the study at the atomic level of the structures of all varieties of materials, crystalline or otherwise, often in situ undergoing evolution with temperature, atmosphere, time, etc. As a post-doc you will join the ID22 team and participate in the operation and development of the beamline. You will act as local contact and assist visiting users to design, plan, set up and conduct their experiments. You will be expected to develop your own scientific programme using the powder diffraction beamline or other instruments at the ESRF.

Expected profile

  • PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science, mineralogy, or equivalent science, obtained less than 3 years ago
  • Experience with powder diffraction or other crystallographic techniques, synchrotron radiation instrumentation (or similar), diffraction data analysis, and computing are desirable
  • Ability to interact with multi-disciplinary staff and facility users
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)

Working conditions

Contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 6 or 18-month period.
