- Post-doctoral (m/f) on ID13 in the X-ray Nanoprobe group
You will participate in a collaborative research programme employing operando scanning nano-beam diffraction to provide insight in the kinetics of battery operation and degradation at multiple length scales within the European Grant project “Opera” funding this position (HORIZON, Cross-sectoral solutions for the climate transition).
The Microfocus beamline (ID13) offers the unique opportunity to simultaneously combine cutting-the-edge scanning micro-/nano-beam diffraction/scattering methods with X-ray fluorescence analysis. The use of highly efficient pixel array detectors operating at kHz frame rate in combination with a considerable gain in performance of the recently upgraded X-ray source (ESRF EBS) is ideally suited for in-situ experiments at the millisecond timescale and a spatial resolution down to the sub-100nm range. Together with our partner institutes, you will be involved in the development of sample environments reproducing the complex electro-chemo-mechanical processes within batteries. These devices will be specifically designed for operation with a nano-diffraction setup and you will be part of an advanced R&D project to adapt the beamline hardware and software to enable their use for fast operando scanning experiments. You will be encouraged to develop your own sub-project within this Grant project, which should exploit and also further develop the beamline’s distinctive capabilities.
