- Postdoctoral fellow (f/m) in the Insertion Devices and Magnets group
The Insertion Devices and Magnets group is responsible for the design, assembly, characterization and operation of undulator X-ray sourcess and magnets in the accelerator complex of the ESRF. The team, composed of 11 engineers and technicians, has developed a large experience in the production and measurement of complex magnetic systems.
We are recruiting an insertion devices and magnets Post-Doctoral Research Fellow with a strong background in applied physics and electromagnetics, knowledge in simulating HTS technology and with very good programming skills to support the development of innovative undulators based on HTS tapes and bulks.
Main duties will include:
· Development of computationally efficient algorithms and models for HTS-based undulators
· Support to detailed design by performing electromagnetic, mechanical, and thermal analyses
· Analysis of AC loss and quench phenomena in normal operations and fault conditions
· Verification and validation of models by means of benchmarks and measurements
Further information may be obtained from Gaël Le Bec (+33 4 76 88 28 68, lebec@esfr.fr)
· A PhD in electrical engineering or applied physics
· A strong background in applied physics and electromagnetics is mandatory
· Experience in simulation of dynamic effects in HTS tapes and/or bulks is mandatory
· Very good programming skills in Python and C/C++ are required
· Experience with undulators, magnets and accelerator is an asset
· Ability to interact constructively with physicists, engineers, designers, and technicians
