Post-doctoral fellow (m/f) in the Structural Biology group

Context & Job description

You will play a key role in the Structural Biology and Neurobiology inhouse research, as well as in the development of X-ray micro-tomography and other group activities.

The ESRF provides access to state-of-the art facilities for diffraction, solution scattering and cryo-electron microscopy experiments in Structural Biology. A critical component of the daily operation and methodological advancement of the Structural Biology Group (SBG) is the Biology Laboratory (CIBB lab), which is equipped for cloning and large-scale protein expression in model organisms such as bacteria, yeast, and mammalian cells. In addition, as part of the ESRF's participation in the Partnership on Structural Biology (PSB), the lab benefits from an extensive portfolio of cell biology and biophysical platforms.

As a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, your missions will include:

  • Contribute to the SBG’s in-house research on neurobiology, particularly on mitochondrial bioenergetics and neurodegeneration, with an emphasis on Alzheimer’s pathogenesis. This work will leverage a multiscale, multimodal approach that uses the advanced capabilities of ESRF beamlines, including cryo-EM.
  • Participate in the development of a new X‑ray micro-tomography setup established at the ID30B beamline.
  • Serve as a Local Contact for external user research on the MX beamlines at the ESRF.

Further information may be obtained from M. Soler López (solerop@esrf.fr).

Expected profile

  • PhD in biophysics, biology, chemistry or closely related science
  • Experience with molecular biology and biophysical methods
  • Strong background in X-ray crystallography and X-ray/EM imaging
  • Background in mitochondrial research and neurobiology
  • Ability to interact with multi-disciplinary staff and facility users
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)

Working conditions

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
