Building’s Operation and Maintenance Technician

Context & Job description

The Buildings & Infrastructure Group is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of the ESRF site and technical infrastructure.

Within this group, the Operation and Maintenance team manages the operation and upkeep of 41 buildings (100,000 m²), green areas (11 ha), road infrastructure (7 ha), and 20 km of underground networks. The team also oversees handling tasks and ensures compliance with mandatory inspections for forklifts and overhead cranes.

To support and maintain essential facilities and services, we are looking for a motivated Building’s operation and maintenance technician. In this role, you will contribute to the smooth operation of the site by managing a variety of tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee landscaping and vending machine frame contracts.
  • Organise lab and office relocations and support the setup of ESRF scientific events (user meetings, poster sessions, etc.).
  • Plan and coordinate building maintenance campaigns (doors, windows, painting, waterproofing).
  • Manage user-requested works, including obtaining quotations, making purchases, and supervising work.
  • Monitor furniture and specific equipment for the on-site hotel and restaurant.
  • Organise and track mandatory safety inspections (fire hydrants, lifelines, automatic doors, smoke extraction systems, handling tools).

Expected profile

  • Education & Qualifications

    • Technician diploma in Building Construction or Building Maintenance (BSc, Licence, HND, BTS, DUT, Bachelor, or equivalent).

    Technical Skills

    • Proficiency in WORD, EXCEL, MS Project, and CMMS software (Computerised Maintenance Management System – GMAO in French).
    • At least five years of relevant professional experience in maintenance, finishing works, construction, renovation projects, or mandatory inspections (building and handling equipment).
    • Strong knowledge of French standards and regulations related to building maintenance and operation.
    • Ability to write technical specifications, meeting reports, and cost estimations (considered an asset).

    Non-Technical Skills

    • Fluency in French and professional English (working language at ESRF).
    • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Reactive, available, and autonomous in managing tasks and responsibilities.

Working conditions

Temporary contract of 18 months.

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
