Welfare Officer

Context & Job description

The ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) is seeking a dedicated Welfare Officer on a fixed-term contract.

As such,your main responsibilities would be the following:

  • Provide a confidential and supportive environment to listen, inform, advise, and assist employees facing personal or professional difficulties.
  • Support employees experiencing administrative or legal issues outside the scope of the HR teams (e.g. visa renewals), and refer them to relevant professionals or institutions (such as doctors, legal advisors, social workers, schools, etc.) when appropriate.
  • Play an active role in the coordination and implementation of measures supporting staff with disabilities, including follow-up, recognition processes, workplace adjustments, communication actions, collaboration with HR teams, and liaising with external organisations.
  • Advise staff and/or supervisors in situations of work-related difficulties or conflicts, with special attention to potential cases of harassment, in collaboration with the Director of Administration and/or to the Head of Human Resources Management Service or with the appropriate service.
  • Provide ongoing support to employees on long-term sick leave, following work accidents, or suffering from occupational diseases, in coordination with the medical service and the internal support group ("Groupe d’Écoute et d’Accompagnement").
  • Assist family members in the event of an employee’s death, handling necessary administrative procedures and coordinating contractual benefits with the Human Resources teams.
  • Report regularly on welfare activities to the Director of Administration, while strictly respecting the confidential nature of the role.

Expected profile

  • State-certified social worker (Assistant(e) de service social), with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Thorough understanding of French administrative procedures and institutions, as well as European social protection systems.
  • Solid knowledge of the legal framework governing social work and employee support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain a reliable professional network.
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion, with a strong sense of confidentiality and professional ethics.
  • Demonstrated judgement and problem-solving abilities, particularly in sensitive or complex situations.
  • Fluent in French, with excellent written communication skills; proficient in English, capable of assisting and advising non-French-speaking employees.

Working conditions

Fixed term contract of 4 months. 66% part-time position.

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
