Post-doc (f/m) on BM05 in “TechNo-CLS EU Project”

Context & Job description

The European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) is looking for a motivated post doc to join BM05, an ESRF beamline hosting experiments using x-ray phase contrast tomography and Bragg diffraction imaging (BDI).

You will play an active role in research related to crystal growth and characterization using BDI, in particular Rocking Curve Imaging, for the investigation of defects in crystals with a spatial and angular resolution in the µm and µradian range, respectively. You will contribute to in-house research on diamond crystals designed to be used in several fields, including X-ray optical devices.

As a post doc at BM05, you will:

  • Participate to cutting-edge research that exploits Bragg diffraction imaging capabilities implemented at BM05. Within this frame you will be able to develop your own in-house research project, in collaboration with your supervisor.
  • Drive technical developments, ensuring continuous upgrades and improvements of the beamline hardware/software instrumentation.
  • Collaborate with international experts.
  • Present and publish your research findings in conferences, workshops, and peer-reviewed journals.

Expected profile

Educational Qualifications

  • PhD in physics, technology, materials science or another closely related field.

Technical Skills

  • Experience with X-ray diffraction, X-ray imaging, X-ray optics, or related experimental techniques would be desirable.
  • A background in scientific programming would be an important asset.
  • Strong background in experimental research, preferably in the development and application of imaging/diffraction techniques

Soft Skills

  • Ambition to develop and lead research projects, to the publication level, within a team collaborative work.
  • Ability to prioritize and communicate efficiently in a fast-paced environment of a large-scale user facility.
  • Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate activities with internal and external colleagues.
  • Hands-on approach with a dedication to experimental work.
  • Strong communication skills, to present research findings at conferences and to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Fluency in English (working language at ESRF).

Working conditions

Contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 6 to 18-month period.
