Laboratory technician for organs preparation (F/M)

Context & Job description

Join a pioneering international research initiative as a Sample Technician, where you will play a key role in preparing biological specimens for Hierarchical Phase-Contrast Tomography (HiP-CT).

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a globally recognised project at the intersection of histology and clinical imaging, advancing our understanding of tissue structures across multiple scales. You will work alongside leading scientists and clinicians from around the world, gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic and collaborative research environment.

Your main responsibilities will include the preparation, handling, and conditioning of biological samples to meet the stringent requirements of synchrotron-based imaging experiments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Media Preparation: Prepare and manage immobilisation media according to established protocols, ensuring that all samples are imaged in the appropriate environment.
  • Inventory and Supply Management: Receive and log deliveries, maintain stock of essential lab supplies, and ensure the lab remains fully equipped to support ongoing experimental activities.
  • Degassing Oversight: Monitor and oversee the degassing process for samples, verifying that all equipment operates correctly and safely.
  • Laboratory Record-Keeping: Accurately document all laboratory activities in the internal database to maintain complete and reliable experimental records.
  • Sample Handling and Preparation: Learn and perform the steps required to prepare samples provided by collaborators, ensuring they meet the technical standards for HiP-CT imaging.
  • Safety Compliance: Work safely with hazardous substances, including formalin, ethanol, and biological materials, in strict adherence to safety protocols and institutional regulations.

Expected profile

  • Technician-level degree (BSc, Licence, HND, HNC, BTS, DUT, Bachelor, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in English (working language of the ESRF).
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety practices, particularly when handling toxic chemicals.
  • Strong organisation skills and attention to details.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary, and international research environment.
  • Willingness to follow established protocols and contribute to a culture of quality and safety.

Working conditions

Temporary contract of 18 months.

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
