Construction Engineer F/M

Context & Job description

The Buildings & Infrastructure Group oversees the operation, maintenance, and development of the ESRF site and its technical infrastructure. This includes managing construction projects, HVAC systems, fluids and networks electrical distribution. Within the B&I Group, the Construction Unit manages the construction of buildings and laboratories, coordinates the technical and architectural packages, analyses user requirements and develops appropriate solutions.

As a Construction Engineer, you will report directly to the head of the Construction Unit and be responsible for projects that strengthen the ESRF’s resilience to evolving scientific demands while anticipating and mitigating long-term infrastructure aging in the coming years, including the following:

  •           Conversion of an existing building into a 1 MW data centre.
  •           Implementing site energy efficiency projects, including the deployment and follow-up of photovoltaic solar panels.
  •           Conducting comprehensive building diagnostics, developing and implementing detailed action plans and establishing a long-term renovation road map.

Your key tasks:

  • Coordination of the feasibility and design studies while managing the tendering process and supervising the construction works.
  • Participation in the selection of the main contractors and subcontractors.
  • Coordination with other ESRF divisions for the implementation of projects.
  • Define, follow-up and control the project schedule, milestones and budget, guaranteeing that progress stays on track and targets are achieved.
  • Maintain close collaboration with the Safety Group.
  • Keep technical documentation up to date (drawings, diagrams, layouts, instruction sheets, etc).

 

 

Expected profile

Technical skills, diplomas and experience:

  • Chartered Civil Engineer or Construction Engineer degree (or equivalent).
  • Experience in construction and installation projects.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in technical design, contract management and/or work supervision.
  • Experience in project management with project management tools (task scheduling and work follow-up).
  • Knowledge of European regulations and construction codes.
  • Experience in tendering processes (writing specifications and preparing cost estimates).

 Domain Knowledge:

  • Structural and civil works.
  • Occupational health and safety regulation.
  • Knowledge in the following domains will be positively evaluated: mechanical engineering, electrical distribution systems, fluid and ventilation networks.

 Soft skills:

  • Aptitude for teamwork and coordination abilities.
  • Good written and oral communication skills for internal and external reporting.
  • Leadership and management skills for supervising subcontractors.
  • High level of flexibility and adaptability for a dynamic environment.

 Languages:

  • French – native/fluent (C2)
  • English – intermediate (B2)

Working conditions

Time limited contract of 36 months maximum.

The salary will be calculated based on relevant qualifications and professional experience.
