CSR Buyer

Context & Job description

The  ESRF is the world's brightest synchrotron light source. Every year, 9000 scientists from 21 partner countries and from around the world travel to Grenoble to use its extremely brilliant X-rays for leading-edge research. This fundamental and applied research contributes to addressing the complex global challenges that our society faces, such as health, energy and the environment.


In this context, the ESRF would like to develop and encourage sustainability and innovation in the procurement process, referred to as “Sustainable Procurement”.


In a team of 10 people and under the supervision of the Head of Procurement and Contracts service, you will be in charge of defining and implementing the environmental and social strategy, following the Corprorate Social Responsability principles. In addition, you will manage and follow up purchase processes in various fields, while ensuring that products and services purchased respect those principles of sustainable development. 

Your missions includes:

  • assess and understand the environmental and social risks and opportunities present in the purchasing process,
  • collaborate with other departments and teams to develop and implement sustainable purchasing strategies,
  • put in place a monitoring system for purchases and suppliers to ensure compliance with sustainability and ethical requirements,
  • ensure that selected suppliers meet sustainability requirements,
  • manage the Call for Tender Process,
  • draw up contracts and amendments,
  • conduct commercial negotiations with suppliers,
  • carry out market watch.

Expected profile

  • Higher university degree (Master, MSc, DESS, Diplom, Diploma, Ingeniera Superior, Licenciatura, Laurea or equivalent) in purchasing and/or international business, with an expertise in sustainable development   
  • Able to build and maintain effective relationship with staff, stakeholders and suppliers  
  • Good communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills  
  • Commercial and financial awareness and knowledge of commercial law and contract elaboration  
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)   

Working conditions

Permanent contract.

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
