Context & Job description

The appointed Business Development Engineer will lead the establishment and implementation of a comprehensive business development strategy within the realm of nanotechnology and nanoscience, with the overarching goal of establishing a sustainable Open Innovation Test Bed within the collaborative framework of the consortia. This attempt will be undertaken within the scope of the NFFA-Europe Pilot (NEP), RIANA, and NanoMECommons (NMC) projects, prominent initiatives funded by the EC under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe frameworks.

Within the framework of NFFA and RIANA, the Business Development Engineer will spearhead the promotion of the Consortiums' technical solutions toward the industrial community, aiming at boosting the engagement and accessibility for private companies. Operating in a collaborative environment, she/he will also provide support to consortium partners in their promotional activities.

Regarding NMC, the Business Development Engineer will focus on valorising and promoting the technical solutions offered by ESRF in the field of nano-mechanics. This involves identifying industrial needs, defining market positioning, and fostering the growth of industrial activities within the project.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing a commercial development plan for the nanotechnology domain, including a comprehensive marketing strategy.
  • Promoting NEP and RIANA offerings to the industrial community and aiding in the marketing activities of project partners, along with contributing to the creation of marketing materials.
  • Collaborating with NMC partners to exploit the instruments developed by ESRF for the target community.
  • Cultivating and nurturing high-potential industrial relationships in the short and medium term within NMC.
  • Organising meetings and facility visits for customers and industrial partners.
  • Planning, promoting, and executing events, workshops, and participation in relevant conferences and trade fairs in nanotechnology and related fields.
  • Contributing to project reporting activities.

The candidate will be based within the Business Development Office (BDO) of ESRF and will dedicate full-time efforts to the NEP, RIANA, and NMC projects, providing cross-functional support to all partners as necessary.

  • Competences in nanoscience and nanotechnology are requested.
  • A certain familiarity with the problematics of the interaction and the relationship between industry and academia would be appreciated, in particular associated with the understanding of the mechanisms of the open innovation.
  • Previous experience in a synchrotron source would be an asset.
  • At least two years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Excellent written communication and editing skills in English are essential.
  • Ability to be organised and analytical, but also to take initiative and deliver original ideas.
  • Professionalism, trustworthiness, self-motivation and the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively
