Electrochemistry Laboratory Manager

Context & Job description

The position is based within the X-ray Diffraction and Scattering Group and provides transversal support to the entire Experiments Division. The role focuses on the operation, coordination, and continuous improvement of the EC-Lab, ensuring high-quality service to ESRF users, scientists, and students while maintaining strict safety and operational standards.

The successful candidate will ensure the availability, safe operation, and efficient use of the electrochemical lab (EC-Lab) premises and equipment. They will coordinate user access in close collaboration with beamline and laboratory local contacts, the Safety Group, and other ESRF support laboratories. Key responsibilities include organizing user visits and access to EC-Lab facilities and equipment, providing hands-on support during experiment preparation and beamtime, and managing advance booking requests to ensure feasibility and compatibility of planned activities. The role also involves overseeing the booking and allocation of EC-Lab instruments. The position includes responsibility for EC-Lab maintenance, with particular attention to major fixed equipment such as the Milli-Q water dispenser and argon gloveboxes. The candidate will also manage the EC-Lab mobile instrument pool, including peristaltic pumps and potentiostats, ensuring their maintenance, availability, and correct operation across beamlines. In addition, the role requires maintaining up-to-date knowledge of technical and scientific developments in the field and contributing to the continuous improvement of EC-Lab services, including enhancements to instrumentation capabilities and data acquisition solutions, while consistently considering laboratory safety requirements

Expected profile

  • Master's degree or equivalent in chemistry, materials science, electrochemistry or a related field. Ph.D in similar areas is a plus.Strong foundational knowledge in chemistry and electrochemistry.
  • Broad understanding of battery science and materials science, including key concepts, characterization methods, and current technological developments.
  • Strong technical background in the use of chemical and electrochemical laboratories. This includes equipment management, waste management, routine laboratory procedures, safety aspects considerations, and gas management.
  • Team player with the ability to interact effectively with multidisciplinary staff and facility users 
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF).

Working conditions
