Beamline scientist specialized in High Pressure Diffraction on ID27 beamline

Context & Job description

Beamline ID27 is a premier X-ray powder and single-crystal diffraction station, fully optimized for the Extremely Brilliant Source and dedicated to cutting-edge research under extreme pressures and temperatures.

By combining high-resolution X-ray diffraction with state-of-the-art sample environments — including double-sided laser-heated diamond anvil cells, helium-flow cryostats, and a Paris–Edinburgh large-volume press — ID27 offers exceptional capabilities to explore matter under some of the most extreme conditions achievable in the laboratory.

As a Beamline Scientist, you will play a central role in the operation, scientific exploitation, and future development of the High-Pressure beamline. You will also actively contribute to the broader activities of the X-ray diffraction and diffusion group at ESRF.

User support is a core dimension of this position, placing you at the heart of international collaborations and at the forefront of high-pressure science. You will work closely with visiting researchers, enabling breakthrough experiments and fostering strong scientific partnerships.

Dedicated beamtime will be allocated to support your in-house research, giving you the opportunity to develop your own research programme in close collaboration with the beamline team.

In addition, you will be co-responsible for the continuous technical upgrading and strategic development of the instrument, ensuring that ID27 remains at the highest level of performance and continues to meet the expectations of its demanding user community.
